LUPUS AWARENESS WALK/RUN

September 14. 2019. 5K Run/Walk for Lupus at the Ogletree Gap Park in Copperas Cove. Planned activities include a car show, K9 demonstation, an exciting martial arts demonstration, and an an appearance by the Five Hills Royalty.  Proceeds for the event went to the Lupus Foundation of American and Central Texas Lupus Group.  PICTURES

TEAM JLYONS DONATES TO LOCAL LUPUS SUPPORT GROUP

Jasmin Lyons, Director of Team Jlyons, presents a check for $900 to the Central Texas Support Group. The group is a forum for Lupus patients (Warriors), family and friends to discuss Lupus and its impact on their lives. Funds were raised from the Team JLyons Lupus Awareness Run/Walk and Car Show held on September 14 in Copperas Cove. Funds will be used to defray costs associated with group activities and promotion of Lupus Awareness and search for a cure. MAKE ADIFFERENCE DAY FOOD DRIVE

October 26, 2019. Make A Difference Day. Community Food Drive for My Brother's House Food Pantry. Drop-off location is Copperas Cove WALMART. Collect personal hygiene items and undergarments for care packages for the homeless. Drop-off location is Copperas Cove WALMART.  PICTURES

C ZACK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP  FUND BOWLING TOURNAMENT 

November 2, 2019. Team Lyons entered a team and sponsored a lane and  in the 5th annual C Zach Memorial Scholarship Fund bowling tournament at Hallmark Lanes. We thank Educated Angels for allowing Team Lyons to be a part of this memorable event and great cause. Team Jlyons had a great time and look forward to participating  next year. PICTURES

FALL VENDOR BAZAAR 

November 23, 2019.  Team Lyons held their very first Fall Vendor Bazaar at the Copperas Cove Civic Center.  Over forty vendors attended with a variety of homemade crafts and food items.

FEEDING THE HOMELESS IN KILLEEN

December 23, 2019.  Team Lyons went to Anointed Christian Church in Killeen to help feed the homeless community.  The team delivered and served 70 breakfast meals  meals consisting of creme beef and sauce and biscuits, sausage, scrambled eggs, milk and  breakfast bars.  We want to thank Mrs. Valarie Wright for coming out to assist us in this worthwhile community project.

TEAM JLYONS ADOPTS HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR

Emily Smith is a homeschooled senior. She has been a part of the UMHB Conservatory choir since she was eight years old and will miss singing with them once she has graduated (and is dreadfully disappointed not to get to sing with them in one last concert this spring). She has played piano since the age of seven and has taught piano lessons for the last two years at Wise Owl Academy. She has also been a member of the worship team at church since she was 12. Emily is an avid reader and will read just about anything she can get her hands on! She has been in several productions at Vive Les Arts over the last few years and enjoys musical theatre immensely. In her spare time, she also loves to volunteer and has been a member of the H.U.T.S. Excel Club (sponsored by the Noon Exchange Club of Copperas Cove) since it was formed in 2016. She was awarded the National Distinguished Charter Club President Award for the year she served as president of the club. Emily will be attending college this fall and plans on being an elementary school teacher.  Emily is pictured at left with Team Lyons director Jasmin Lyons.

TEAM JLYONS DONATES GIFT CARDS TO SENIORS

Team JLyons, as part of an effort to recognize members of the graduating class of 2020 initiated a Facebook contest for Seniors in the Central Texas community.  All the participants had to do was submit their name, school they attend and a short explanation of what "volunteering" means to them.  We read the entries selected four winners to award $50 gift cards.  Additionally, we put all the names in a hat and pulled a fifth winner.  Our winners selected were:

SHOUTOUT to CarolAnn Campbell Hone7 May 2020. There are so many people doing great and wonderful things during this time of national emergency. Just want to give a shoutout to one of those people, my friend, Carolann Campbell Hone. Carolann has made and donated over 1,000 face masks throughout the community. When asked why, she replied "It’s just a small thing you know. We have to look after each other. I’ve lost count anyway. About a thousand masks since early March. A means to keep my hands busy. I sew because I can, but honestly, I don’t know if it makes a difference. A mask may not help, but it’s better than nothing at all. If just one person feels safer wearing one, then I helped one person. I believe we all have a purpose and need to pay attention when we are called. Sewing machine and bins of material equal masks. Nothing special really, but maybe I had a purpose."When I told her I needed masks for the volunteers at My Brothers House Food Pantry, she not only made them, she also delivered them. Such a great lady with helping hands and a caring heart. Thank you!

WALK FOR LUPUS IN AFGHANISTAN

10 May 2020.  Members of AFSBn took time our to walk five miles for Lupus Awareness  while employed in Afghanistan.

COVID-19 HAMPERS AAU BASKETBALL SEASON

The Central Texas STARZZ youth basketball program, sponsored by Team Lyons, has been holding out hope that we would be able to continue the AAU youth basketball season. With the decision to permanently close school facilities and events for the remainder of the school year, and losing of our practice facilities, we do not see how the season can be completed. Our fifth-sixth grade boys team, coached by Joel Hanley and Mike Watson, were fortunate enough to get in some practices and the opportunity to play in two tournaments.

TEAM JLYONS TO CANCEL PURPLE IN PARK EVENT

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted daily life throughout the world. It has changed what we do and how we do it.  The event, Purple in the Park, commemorating National Lupus Month has been postponed to a later date.
